Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don’t have to like it… it’s just easier if you do. ~ Byron Katie
Try as we might, you and I tend to be our own worst critic. As you enter this second full week of the New Year and you’re working on making plans for changes, it’s more important than ever to be gentle with yourself. Don’t go down the path of what you should have and could have done by now. Instead just think about whether or not you are exactly where you need to be at this moment in time.
As I reflect on any key changes I have made in life, initially I often felt uncertain about that change or the desire to try something new. I found that if I don’t focus, my go-to reaction is too often to immediately try and control everything in an attempt to create some sense of order in my life. I want to see the whole path and know for certain that each decision is “right” before I take action. With this mentality, I can spend years thinking about doing things, but never actually taking the necessary steps to create the life I dreamed of.
What I recommend instead is to just try taking one step and trust that when you need it, the next step will be revealed. In truth, there’s no certainty in life, only ambiguity and real opportunity. I challenge you to fight the fear of change. Look for possibility in a fresh approach. Seek new horizons, new adventure in life and work and enjoy the journey to new beginnings.
The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it. ~ Steven Pressfield
