This month’s theme is Leveraging Leadership skills. What does this mean? I am going to start the month with some tips that will hopefully challenge you to change your mindset. You can’t do it alone, you can’t lead by yourself. Consider the following ideas, tips and concepts as some useable ways to leverage your leadership and the skills of those you lead.
A leader is always an optimist, to be less is to be a waste of space.
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow nor will your followers or your organization.
Nothing ruins the truth like stretching it. When you don’t know what you are talking about, admit it and find someone who can school you in what you need to know.
A leader can’t climb a ladder by pushing others down. Help them climb with you. You will all go further together.
For things to change for you – you’ve got to change. Surround yourself with people who can help you become the change you seek.
Hang around the winners. Learn what they do to win. Remember, birds of a feather really do flock together.
The biggest limitation that most of us suffer from, is the thoughts, beliefs and preconceived notions that reside between our ears.
Remember the road to success is always under construction – study and know what and where the detours are.
As the Cheshire Cat said to Alice as she was looking for a way to get out of wonderland, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.” Know your vision, mission and core values and share them with those who you want to take down the road with you.
Lead with a “can do” attitude. You can do if you think you can do.
Be open to considering new ways of doing things. A person’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions. As your granny probably told you, there is always more than one way to skin a cat.
So there you have it. Hopefully, one or several of these thoughts will cause you to consider a new mindset, an idea you will leverage into a new way thinking and a call to taking new action. Happy leveraging.
